Terrace Apartment

A developer-standard penthouse rebuilt from the inside out, with the terrace treated as the largest room in the house.

Living room with a stone floor opening through sliding glass doors onto a planted terrace

The apartment came with a 'premium' fit-out the owners never liked: glossy floors, drop ceilings, a kitchen hidden from everything. We removed all of it. Walls between kitchen, dining and living came down; the floor became one plane of grey Kota stone from the front door to the terrace edge.

The terrace, previously an empty slab with a railing, now has a pergola of steel and Mangalore tile, a planted edge of frangipani and native grasses, and an outdoor kitchen. Sliding doors stack fully away, so on most evenings it is hard to say where the living room ends.

Inside, custom joinery in white oak does the heavy lifting: a nine-metre storage wall that hides the television, the bar and the household's clutter. Furniture is a mix of pieces we designed and things the family already owned and loved, which is how most good rooms happen.
